Since its establishment in June 1990, Global Environment Forum-KANSAI has been engaged in survey, research and proposal related to global environmental problems.





Shiga Environmental Business Exhibition 2007 Seminar
October 25 (Thur.), 2007
Venue: Central Conference Room, Nagahama Institute of Bio-Science and Technology

The seminar was held after the 4th Assessment Report released by the IPCC which concluded that global warming was a reality and as a result, 20 - 30% of all wildlife around the world was in danger of extinction as many species could not adjust to sudden changes of their habitats. The seminar involved participants in discussing the meaning of biodiversity preservation and various activities of businesses and other circles.

The 3rd Symposium on Global Warming Prevention

Venue: Yodonoma Room, RIHGA ROYAL NCB


In the backdrop to this symposium lied the release of the 4th Assessment Report by the IPCC, the adoption of the Bali roadmap, at the COP13, the start of the First Commitment Period of the Kyoto Protocol and an emerging trend around the world of countries trying to take the initiative in building a post]Kyoto Protocol framework. Together with participants, this symposium focused on long]term strategies that Japan could use to develop the country into a low carbon society.






Visit to Vietnam

December 10 (Wed.) - 13 (Sat.), 2007

GEF]K members traveled to Danang and Hue in  Socialist Republic of Vietnam for a current situation survey. In Danang, it was learned that the city promoted eco]friendly industries and tried to attract businesses in the IT, financial and communication sectors. In Hue, tourism]related industries are strong largely because of the World Heritage Complex of Hue Monuments, but pollution associated with growing urbanization is an issue.

Interchange with LESTARI, Malaysia
March 24 (Mon.) - 25 (Tue.), 2008

GEF]K invited Dr. Ahmad Fariz Mohamed of the Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARI), National University of Malaysia, to report the result of the sponsored survey titled gStudy on toxic and hazardous wastes recovery potential in Malaysiah in the meeting of its Economic Development, Environment and Energy in Asia Council. Also, while in Japan, Dr. Mohamed toured the advanced waste processing facilities at the headquarters factory of GEF]K business]member, Daiei Service Co., Ltd.















Award Ceremony of the 4th Younger Generation Eco Message Poster Design Contest

Venue: Kids Plaza Hall, Kids Plaza Osaka


After careful screening of 93 entries, judges selected one 1st Place, three 2nd Place and ten 3rd Place award]winners. At the Award Ceremony, the judges commented on works and shared opinions with the young contestants who aspired to become designers.

Publication of gNearby Tidal Land Worth Knowingh

The Human Life and Water Environment Council formed an Editorial Committee* that prepared and published the pamphlet gNearby Tidal Land Worth Knowingh depicting the eco
]systems of tidal areas, showing their scarcity in recent years and conservation efforts. The pamphlet was distributed to GEF]K members and others. It was intended to inspire people to think about what can be done today to preserve biodiversity.
