1.Objective
@@GEF-K held the third workshop between Japan and Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City(HCMC), which was co-organized by University of Science, Vietnam National University-HCMC on city development issues, analyzing the current development situation of the rapidly expanding HCMC from the point of sustainability, proposing gTransition Approachesh for the HCM city development and making the general methodology for the city development in Asia.

In February 2009, first workshop in HCMC dealt with environmental situation and some ecologically sound activities of greenery restoration and 3R in HCMC, as Japanese delegates proposed effective traffic management and citizens involvement for the town development.
@@Second workshop in Osaka, November 2009 focused on traffics and green space management, had an excursion of Vietnam delegates to some good example sites.
@@In this third workshop, Japanese speakers introduced the policies in each component of the Japanese city and some environmental projects in process, e.g., greenery restored city, compact city planning to reduce the transportation. Japanese delegates also pointed out that HCMC needed the sustainable city planning as it was in the transition period to become a megalopolis.
@@Vietnam side reported the city planning and transportation status, adaptation measures to the climate change, fresh water supplies and  sewage treatment planning of HCMC. They expressed their hope to learn from the Japanese case studies and adapt some lessons learnt for use in their own sustainable city planning.
@@Both parties, a total of 70 persons agreed to stay connected to exchange information via the web.
